ARANSI: DIRT, ILLS AT MOTHER AND CHILD ONDO CITY

A journalist who is also a native of Ondo state Adebayo Aransiola has berated the unprofessional conduct of the members of staff of Mother and Child Hospital in Ondo city.

Aransi who gave an account of his experience when he visited the health facility revealed that patients were neglected and charged unnecessary payments for services that were meant to be free.

He made this known in an open letter posted on his Facebook account, to the governor of Ondo State Lucky Aiyedatiwa.

The letter;

"Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, I am writing to bring to the attention of your government, a deeply concerning experience I had during my recent visit to Mother and Child Hospital in Ondo City.

As a citizen who has always had great respect for our healthcare system, I was disheartened by the attitudes and practices of some of the hospital staff, which I believe undermine the core values of the health institution and the well-being of the patients that the hospital serves.

ÀRÁNSÍỌLÁ

On the day of my visit, I observed that patients were being charged for items that should, under normal circumstances, be provided by the government.

Additionally, there were other charges that seemed unaccounted for. This situation is not only financially burdensome for patients and their families but also raises serious concerns about transparency and ethics within the hospital.

What I found most distressing was the apparent fear among patients and their relatives to voice their concerns or object to these charges.

It seems that many (in whom I am one) believe that those who work in the healthcare sector hold significant power over life and death, a belief that some of the hospital workers appear to exploit.

The staff's behaviour suggested a sense of impunity, as though they were beyond accountability, with an unspoken threat that any dissent could result in patients being neglected or left unattended.

This is an alarming situation that not only jeopardizes the trust the public places in Mother and Child Hospital but also puts vulnerable patients, particularly expectant mothers and children, at risk.

The fear of retaliation should never be a reason for patients to endure unfair treatment or unethical practices in silence.

I urge the government to investigate these issues thoroughly and take the necessary steps to ensure that the attitudes and practices of the staff members align with the values of compassion, integrity, and accountability.

It is imperative that patients and their families feel safe and supported, without fear of mistreatment or neglect.

Thank you for your attention to this matter. I trust that the government will take swift and appropriate action to address these concerns, ensuring that Mother and Child Hospital, Ondo City remains a place of care and respect for all who seek its services".

ARANSIOLA, A.S.
