PRIVATE WORKERS SHOULD EARN ABOVE N70,000 - FG

The Federal Government of Nigeria has issued a stern warning to private employers who pay their workers less than the new minimum wage of N70,000, stating that failure to comply will be considered a punishable crime.  This directive was communicated by Alhaji Ismaila Abubakar, Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment, at the 13th Annual General Meeting of the Employers Association for Private Employment Agencies of Nigeria in Lagos. MODEL COLLEGES BOARDING FEE HIKE IS JUSTIFIABLE - LASG

  The Lagos State Government has announced a significant increase in boarding fees for students in its model colleges, effective from the 2024/2025 academic session starting September 15, 2024. According to a statement by the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, the new boarding fee will be N100,000, replacing the previous fee of N35,000, which has remained unchanged since 2021. Ganiu Lawal, Deputy Director of Public Affairs for the Ministry, explained that the increase is necessary to ensure better welfare for students, considering the rising cost of living. "The N35,000 boarding fee is unrealistic in 2024. AMOTEKUN ARRESTS ADO-EKITI BEGGAR FOR THEFT, ASSAULT

  Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State - In a swift operation, Amotekun Operatives from the Oye Local Government Command arrested a 26-year-old suspect, Efoghae Friday, from Edo State, for alleged theft and assault. According to eyewitnesses, the suspect had been begging for money from passersby and motorists at Fajuyi, but turned violent when his demands were not met. Recall that the Engineer Bayo Àjàyí boya thrashed their counterparts from IKOLE local government 3-0 at the opening ceremony of the competition held at the Oluyemi Kayode stadium Ado Ekiti.   Amaka Sonnberger, a 46-year-old Nigerian woman living in Canada, has been arrested by the Toronto Police Service for uttering threats and promoting hate speech against the Yoruba and Edo people.  Her arrest was announced on September 1, 2024, following a petition submitted by the Nigerian in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) to the Mayor of Brampton, Patrick Brown. Sonnberger was charged with uttering threats and is scheduled to appear in court on September 2, 2024.  The investigation is being treated as a suspected hate-motivated offense. Oyebode Cup 2024 Kicks Off with a Bang

  The highly anticipated Professor Akin Oyebode Cup 2024 got off to an exciting start on match day one, with some thrilling encounters and surprising results.  In Group A, Emure stunned Ikole with a 3-0 win at the Oluyemi Kayode stadium in Ado, while Ado edged out Iṣẹ/Orun 1-0. In Group B, Efon defeated Ido/Osi 2-1 at the Ijero venue, while Ekiti West thrashed Ekiti South West 3-0.  Group C saw Gbonyin and Oye share the spoils in a 1-1 draw at the Ikole Township Stadium, while Ikere defeated Ekiti East 3-1 at the same venue. In Group D, the match between Ijero and Moba ended goalless, but Irepodun/Ifelodun scored 2 past Ilejemeje who failed to find the back of the net. EKITI STATE GOVERNMENT SETS UP COMMITTEE FOR MINIMUM WAGE NEGOTIATION

  Ado Ekiti, September 1, 2024 - The Ekiti State Government has established a 13-member negotiation committee to engage with organized labor on the implementation of the minimum wage payment in the state. The committee, comprising government officials and labor leaders, was set up by Governor Biodun Oyebanji following the signing of the minimum wage law by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on July 30th, 2024. SWAN Ekiti Chapter Releases Electoral Schedule, Fixes Prices for Forms

The electoral committee of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Ekiti state chapter, has announced the schedule for the upcoming election.  In a statement signed by Chairman Raphael Ogbonaiye and Secretary Radius Famobio, the committee outlined the key dates and fees for the electoral process. The sale of forms will commence on Monday, September 2, and close on Thursday, September 12. Screening of candidates is scheduled for September 18. The committee has fixed the prices for forms as follows: - Chairmanship: ₦10,000 - Deputy Chairmanship: ₦8,000 - Secretary: ₦8,000 - Assistant Secretary, Financial Secretary, Treasurer, and Welfare Officer: ₦6,000 each The committee urges all SWAN members in Ekiti state to adhere to the schedule and follow the instructions carefully to ensure a smooth electoral process.

HOMOSEXUAL MARRIAGE BROUHAHA, METHODIST CHURCH LOCKED

A violent clash occurred today at the United Methodist Church of Nigeria in the Garki area 1 of Abuja, leading to a swift police response and the lockdown of the religious facility.  According to a Facebook post by online advocate Very Dark Black Man, the violence was sparked by the church's decision to legalize homosexual marriage, following an order from overseas church authorities. As of the time of reporting, police had evacuated all members from the premises. Thee controversy was further fueled by the refusal of the presiding Bishop to step down despite being due for retirement.  The overseas church authorities are reportedly planning to appoint a new Bishop to facilitate the implementation of homosexual marriage in the church. It is worth noting that in Nigeria, both male and female same-sex relationships are illegal and punishable by up to 14 years in prison under the conventional court system. The situation remains tense, and further developments are expected.

Drastic Measures: Wike Vows to "Put Fire" in States of PDP Governors Backing Fubara

  In a fiery outburst, Minister of FCT, Nyesom Wike, threatened to wreak havoc in the states of PDP governors supporting Governor Siminalayi Fubara, warning them to back off from attempts to take control of the party structure. At the Rivers State PDP Congress in Port Harcourt, Wike declared: "Not while we live will anybody take the PDP structure from us... I will put fire in their states."
