Nigeria's Poor Performance at World U20 Athletics Championship Exposed





Udo-Obong Enefiok, a renowned Nigerian athlete and Olympic medalist, has revealed the shocking circumstances surrounding Nigeria's disappointing performance at the 2024 World U20 Athletics Championship in Lima, Peru. 

The team returned home without a single medal, prompting Enefiok to share his firsthand experience and insights into the team's preparations and motivations.

Enefiok described the current state of Nigerian athletics as "the worst time to be an athlete living in Nigeria." 

He highlighted several key issues, including:


1. Late invitations and lack of preparation

2. Poor flight arrangements, resulting in exhausting travel and uncertain returns

3. Inadequate allowances and compensation for athletes

4. Subpar appearance and attire, with athletes wearing school clothing and individual items

5. Demotivating treatment by administrators, who prioritize their own interests over athlete welfare

Enefiok's account paints a dire picture of Nigeria's athletic development, emphasizing the need for systemic change to support and empower athletes. His expertise and experience make his critique a compelling call to action for reform.
