Ekiti State Revitalizes Sports Sector, Inaugurates Association Chairmen


In a significant move to boost the sports sector, Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji has inaugurated chairmen for various sports associations. The ceremony, held on September 24 at the governor's office conference hall, marked a new era for sports development in the state.

Governor Oyebanji, represented by Secretary to the State Government Dr. Habibat Adubiaro, emphasized the importance of sports in fostering teamwork, socio-economic connections, and career opportunities for youth.

"The growth of the sports sector is crucial to our administration," Governor Oyebanji said. "We will continue to support initiatives that empower our youth and promote sports development."

The inauguration saw the appointment of notable personalities as patrons, patronesses, and chairmen of various sports associations, including:

- Governor Biodun Oyebanji and his wife, Dr. Olayemi Oyebanji, as Grand Patrons of Ekiti United F.C and Ekiti Queens F.C, respectively

- Deputy Governor Chief (Mrs.) Monisade Afuye, Sen. Opeyemi Bamidele, and Sen. Cyril Fasuyi as Patrons and Patronesses

- Sen. Yemi Adaramodu (Athletics), Hon. Femi Bamisile (Basketball), and Prince Joseph Ogunsina (Judo) as Chairmen


Technical Advisor on Sports Development Dr. Olusola Osetoba highlighted the state government's investments in sports infrastructure, local events, and youth participation in national and international competitions.

"We urge private investors to leverage the enabling environment in Ekiti State to support our sports development efforts," Dr. Osetoba said.

The appointments aim to harness the potentials of sports to empower youth, create jobs, and promote societal progress.


Chairman of the Judo Association, Prince Joseph Ogunsina, pledged the commitment of the inaugurated chairmen to ensure a formidable synergy with the government for meaningful growth and development.

This development is expected to revitalize Ekiti State's sports sector, providing opportunities for youth and promoting sports excellence.
