Hundreds of residents took to the streets of Ado-Ekiti to protest against Give the Nation Foundation, a non-governmental organization (NGO) accused of deceiving the public with unfulfilled promises.
The NGO had advertised its philanthropic activities through various media outlets, promising food items, scholarships, training, and business grants.
However, protesters claim that none of these items have been distributed, despite attracting people from neighboring towns.
"We were promised food, scholarships, and business grants, but it's all a scam," said one protester. "We demand accountability and transparency from Give the Nation Foundation." The protest caused traffic gridlock and disrupted business activities in the area.
When contacted, the organizer of the program, Mr. Wealth, promised to address the concerns but provided no further details.
The Ekiti State Government has been urged to investigate the NGO's activities and ensure that those affected receive the promised benefits.
The protest highlights growing concerns about NGOs' accountability and transparency in Nigeria.
Authorities must take swift action to protect vulnerable individuals from exploitation and ensure that NGOs operate with integrity.
