Ado Ekiti, September 1, 2024 - The Ekiti State Government has established a 13-member negotiation committee to engage with organized labor on the implementation of the minimum wage payment in the state.
The committee, comprising government officials and labor leaders, was set up by Governor Biodun Oyebanji following the signing of the minimum wage law by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on July 30th, 2024.
According to a statement by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media, Yinka Oyebode, the committee is tasked with negotiating the implementation of the minimum wage payment in the state.
The committee members include the Head of Service, Dr. (Mrs.) Folakemi Olomojobi, who will serve as chairman, as well as the Commissioner for Finance, Mr. Akintunde Oyebode, and the Special Advisor on Labour Matters, Comrade K. Faromiluyi.
Labour leaders on the committee include the Chairman of the Joint Negotiation Council, Comrade Olufemi Ajoloko, and the Chairmen of the Nigeria Labour Congress and Trade Union Congress, Comrades Olatunde Kolapo and Sola Adigun, respectively.
The committee's first meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, September 4th, 2024.
The establishment of the committee is seen as a move by the state government to ensure a smooth implementation of the minimum wage payment in the state.
