Ekiti State Government Lauds Prof. Akin Oyebode Cup 2024 Organizers as Final approaches

 



The Ekiti State Government has showered praise on the organizers of the Professor Akin Oyebode Cup 2024, a prestigious under-15 boys and girls football competition. 

The tournament, sponsored by the State’s Honourable Commissioner for Finance, Akintunde Oyebode, in honour of his father, the renowned Prof. Akin Oyebode, has reached its thrilling final stages.

Dr. Olusola Osetoba, the Technical Advisor to Governor Biodun Oyebanji, while receiving the organizers in her office expressed the state government's admiration for the their' exceptional work in branding and engaging with the Ekiti football community. 

Osetoba who was presented the kits for the finals emphasized that the Professor Akin Oyebode Cup has emerged as a shining example of grassroots football development within the state. 

"The organizers have demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to promoting grassroots football and fostering gender sensitivity," Osetoba commended. "Their efforts have significantly contributed to the growth and development of young football talents in Ekiti State. As young minds, they've proven to be capable of organizing a befitting tournament. We've not had any cause for controversy."

In the girls' category, Oye Local Government secured a place in the final after a nail-biting penalty shootout against Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government. The match ended in a 1-1 draw during regulation time, forcing the decisive penalty kicks. Oye Local Government ultimately triumphed with a score of 4-3. Meanwhile, Ijero Local Government defeated Ikole 2-0 to set up an exciting final clash with Oye.

The boys' category also promises to be a thrilling finale. Oye Local Government will face off against Ekiti West after defeating Efon 2-0 in their semifinal match. Ekiti West advanced to the final after a hard-fought 5-3 penalty shootout victory over Ikere. 

The highly anticipated finals are expected to draw massive crowds as football fans and stakeholders eagerly await the exciting matches. The Professor Akin Oyebode Cup has undoubtedly become a major highlight in the Ekiti State sporting calendar, showcasing the talent and passion of young footballers in the region.
