The Federal Representative for Ekiti North 1 (Ikole/Oye) Constituency, Akin Rotimi, has unveiled plans to organize a talent hunt competition for para athletes across all 16 local government areas of Ekiti State.
Rotimi shared the announcement on Saturday during the inauguration of the Ekiti State Para Athletics Association Board of Committee at the Oluyemi Kayode Stadium in Ado-Ekiti. The event brought together stakeholders and enthusiasts of para athletics in a display of unity and support for the sport.
As the committee chairman, Rotimi emphasized his dedication to advancing the welfare of para athletes in the state. He revealed that the upcoming competition, with details to be announced soon, is part of a broader effort to enhance opportunities for athletes with disabilities while promoting sports development in Ekiti.
In his address, Rotimi urged the committee members to collaborate in raising the profile of para athletics in the state, aligning their efforts with the administration of Governor Biodun Oyebanji, who has prioritized sports as a tool for development.
“I am deeply committed to the welfare of para athletes and persons with disabilities (PWDs) in Ekiti State. This initiative is a reflection of our shared prosperity agenda and the governor’s vision for inclusive development,” he said.
Rotimi also called on the committee to prioritize the needs of para athletes, stating, “Let’s seize this opportunity to make a lasting impact on Ekiti State Para Athletics.”
The newly inaugurated committee includes Toyin Ojo (Vice Chairman), Ojo Peter (Athlete Coach), Oluwafemi Blessing (Secretary General), Blessing Akinyemi (Media Director), Rotawo Olusegun (Athlete Representative), Patrick Oyeniyi, Yaquob Popoola, and Olaota Adediji as members.
