Ekiti State Table Tennis Association Inaugurates Members, Receives Chairman's Support
The Ekiti State Table Tennis Association has officially inaugurated its members under the leadership of its newly appointed chairman, Honourable Akinlayo Kolawole, a member of the House of Representatives representing Ekiti North Federal Constituency.
The inauguration ceremony, which took place at the Inland Club in Ado Ekiti, brought together key stakeholders in the sports sector.
Among the notable attendees were Dr. (Mrs.) Olusola Osetoba, the Technical Advisor on Sports Development to Governor Biodun Oyebanji, table tennis experts, coaches, former players, and members of the Ekiti State Sports Commission.
The event followed the recent approval by the Ekiti State Executive Council for a N7 billion indoor sports hall project, signaling a renewed commitment to sports development in the state.
In alignment with this initiative, the Table Tennis Association reaffirmed its dedication to fostering the sport’s growth in Ekiti.
Hon. Akinlayo also led the inauguration of other key members of the association, including Patron Mr. Sola Aisida, Pastor Peter Omogoye, Otunba Rotimi Oluwatayo, Mr. Aina Oluwadare, and Dr. Adeola Sola.
During the association's inaugural meeting following the inauguration, Hon. Akinlayo demonstrated his commitment by donating N5 million to establish an official table tennis account in Ekiti State.
The gesture was widely applauded as a significant step toward providing financial stability for the sport’s development.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Osetoba outlined the operational directives for the association under its new leadership. She also called on well-meaning individuals to support Governor Oyebanji’s progressive strides in the sports sector.
A major discussion point at the meeting was the advancement of table tennis in Ekiti State and the challenges facing the sport.
Key among these concerns was the need to retain professional players within the state and prevent their migration to other states. The association also emphasized the importance of grassroots talent development and pledged to extend its activities across Ekiti to uncover and nurture young table tennis talents.
Further demonstrating support for the initiative, former professional table tennis player and association member, Mr. Oluwadare, donated N50,000 towards the purchase of consumables for the state’s current table tennis team as they prepare for upcoming competitions.
The inauguration also had in attendance several dignitaries, including Mr. Mayowa Ogundele (DAS), Mr. Adewumi Kunle (Director of Coaching), Mr. Odeyemi Michael (Director of Facilities), Mr. Agbeleye Olayinka (Organizing Secretary), Mr. B.S. Idowu, Mr. Abimbla Sunday, Table Tennis Secretary Mrs Adebusuyi Rachel.F and many others.
The event marked a new era for table tennis in Ekiti State, with stakeholders expressing optimism about the future of the sport and the opportunities it will provide for young talents in the region.
