Ekiti State Government Advises Farmers on NiMet’s 2025 Rainfall Forecast
The Ekiti State Government has issued an advisory to farmers, urging them to align their agricultural activities with the 2025 rainfall forecast provided by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet).
This directive aims to enhance food production and minimize risks associated with unpredictable weather patterns.
The advisory emphasizes the importance of timing in rainfed farming, encouraging farmers to consider NiMet’s predicted rainfall dates before planting.
By doing so, the state government hopes to improve agricultural yields, prevent losses, and promote climate-smart farming practices.
In a bid to strengthen meteorological support for farmers, the Ekiti State Government also announced plans to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with NiMet.
The agreement will focus on Seasonal Rainfall Prediction (SRP), providing farmers with accurate weather data to guide their decision-making.
A government spokesperson highlighted the significance of the partnership, stating, “This collaboration with NiMet will ensure that our farmers receive timely and reliable weather updates, enabling them to plan effectively and maximize productivity.”
Farmers across Ekiti State have welcomed the initiative, expressing optimism that better weather predictions will help them navigate climate-related challenges.
With agriculture being a key driver of Ekiti State’s economy, the government remains committed to supporting farmers through policies and initiatives that enhance productivity, food security, and economic growth.
