Ekiti Boxers Impress in Trials as Adesokan Eyes Gold at National Sports Festival



The Ekiti Boxing Association has commenced its selection trials in preparation for the National Sports Festival, set to take place in May in Ogun State. 

The event showcased intense matchups across multiple weight divisions, with several Ekiti boxers delivering standout performances.

The Association's media officer Bernard Fagbemiro reported that among the notable victories, Oluwakemi David triumphed over Olaleye Sakiru in the 57kg category, while Omotola Wole secured a win against Bamidele Qudus in the 70kg division. 

He further said that in the female category, Alade Tobi emerged victorious against Agboola Tomisin. Additionally, Esan Michael delivered a knockout performance against Ogunbiyi Solomon, and Agboola Tope Victor outboxed Bamidele Qudus.



Expressing his satisfaction, Hon. Israel Adesokan, Chairman of the Ekiti Boxing Association, commended the athletes for their outstanding performances. 

He reaffirmed the association’s commitment to assembling a competitive team capable of making the state proud at the National Sports Festival. 

The Chairman also extended his appreciation to Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji for his dedication to sports development in Ekiti, as well as to Dr. Mrs. Olusola Osetoba, Technical Advisor on Sports Development, for her invaluable contributions.

While speaking, the Association’s Secretary, Deji Olowolafe, another round of trials is scheduled in the coming weeks. 

After the final selection, the chosen athletes will enter a closed training camp to refine their skills and enhance team cohesion.

With two more opportunities to prove themselves, Ekiti boxers remain focused and determined. 

Inspired by Hon. Adesokan’s confidence in their abilities, they are eager to rise to the occasion and bring home gold at the prestigious event.

In the letter addressed to the Association and the general public, Omoyeni stated that his decision was taken to enable him pursue other life opportunities and further his professional career.
