Torch of Unity Lands in Ekiti as State Gears Up for National Sports Festival


Excitement is building in Ekiti State as the Torch of Unity, a symbolic emblem of national sportsmanship, arrived ahead of the 2024 National Sports Festival scheduled to hold in Ogun State from May 16 to 30.

The arrival ceremony brought together key figures in Ekiti’s sports community, with Hon. Idowu Odebunmi, Chairman of the House Committee on Sports, highlighting Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s unwavering dedication to using sports as a catalyst for youth and human capital development.


Dr. (Mrs.) Olusola Osetoba, Technical Advisor on Sports Development, also praised the governor’s efforts, stating that the state is fully prepared and motivated to participate in the festival with high hopes.

Representing the National Sports Commission, Inkora Obora, who led the Torch of Unity team, emphasized that beyond competition, sports remain a powerful force for unity, peace, and national cohesion.

Hon. Sunday Ola, Chairman of the Ekiti State Sports Commission, added that the athletes are in good shape and spirits, with camp activities already in full swing as the state looks forward to putting on a strong showing.

Representing the State Technical Committee, the popularly known SOJ expressed solidarity with the state government, commending its commitment to ensuring the success of Ekiti’s contingent by making all necessary resources available for their preparation and welfare ahead of the festival.

The event saw the presence of several sports stakeholders, including Ekiti FA Chairman Olu Oloworemo, the players’ union, supporters’ club, members of the technical committee, and other officials, all showing solidarity and enthusiasm as Ekiti prepares for the national stage.

  Olawale Omoyeni Resigns as Ekiti FA Media Officer Olawale Omoyeni has officially stepped down from his position as the Media Officer of the Ekiti State Football Association, as contained in a resignation letter dated January 19, 2026. In the letter addressed to the Association and the general public, Omoyeni stated that his decision was taken to enable him pursue other life opportunities and further his professional career.
