Ekiti United, Players Union: This is the Bitter Truth

Ekiti United Threatens Legal Action Over “Deliberate Lie” on Alleged Attack of Coach, Labels Report Criminally Misleading

Ekiti United Football Club has issued a stern, uncompromising and final rebuttal to a malicious, defamatory and deliberately false report circulated on social media by X user Olaiya Azeez Lawal, which falsely alleged that supporters attacked Head Coach Idris Bolarinwa during a training session.

The club has described the publication as a calculated falsehood, a reckless act of misinformation and a dangerous abuse of social media, warning that it reserves the right to pursue full legal redress against the author and any platform or individual who continues to propagate the lie.

In a categorical statement, Ekiti United confirmed that the team resumed training peacefully at exactly 7:00 a.m. on Monday January 26 ahead of the second stanza of the Nigeria National League (NNL), which commences on February 14, and that no incident remotely resembling an attack or protest occurred.

According to the club’s Media Manager, Blessing Akinyemi, the only engagement that took place at the training ground was a lawful, orderly and constructive meeting between the club’s management and the players’ union, led by Comrade Oluwole Ogunwole, focused strictly on players’ welfare, motivation and improved performance going into the second half of the season.

Ekiti United further emphasized that no supporters’ club members were present at the training venue, completely dismantling the false narrative and exposing the report as an outright lie concocted without verification, evidence or conscience.

The management described the post as defamatory and injurious, noting that such reckless allegations have the potential to endanger lives, incite violence, attract unnecessary security attention and damage professional reputations, all of which carry serious legal consequences under Nigerian law.

Ekiti United Football Club has therefore placed the author of the false report on notice, warning that failure to retract the statement publicly, issue an unreserved apology and desist from further defamatory publications may compel the club to initiate legal proceedings without further notice.

The club also warned bloggers, reposting pages and commentary platforms that sharing, amplifying or endorsing the false report makes them equally liable, stressing that ignorance will not be accepted as a defense.

Ekiti United reaffirmed its commitment to professionalism, discipline and peaceful sporting conduct, stating that it will not allow its image, its technical crew or its supporters to be dragged into fabricated controversies by individuals seeking relevance through falsehood.

The club urged the public to treat the report as fake, malicious and legally questionable, and to rely solely on official communication channels for authentic information concerning Ekiti United Football Club.
