Defending Champions Oye LFC Set for Ikere LFC Test as Prof. Akin Oyebode Cup Resumes
The Prof. Akin Oyebode Cup, a leading grassroots football competition in Ekiti State, is set to resume with Match Week Two following a short break, as organizers reaffirm their commitment to sustaining the tournament’s developmental objectives.
The competition, instituted in honour of Professor Akin Oyebode and sponsored by his family with notable involvement from Ekiti State Commissioner for Finance, Honorable Akintunde Oyebode, has continued to provide a credible platform for the discovery and grooming of football talents across the State.
Beyond players, the tournament has created opportunities for coaches, referees, and football administrators, with previous editions producing prospects who have progressed into recognized football academies, including Beyond Limits Football Academy.
After an entertaining opening round held in December 2025, Match Week Two fixtures have been scheduled for Wednesday, January 21, and Thursday, January 22, 2026, marking a renewed phase of competition intensity.
Attention will be firmly fixed on the headline clash between defending champions Oye LFC and Ikere LFC, a fixture expected to test the champions’ credentials while offering Ikere LFC the chance to make an early statement in the title race.
All Match Week Two games will be played at the newly refurbished Ikole Stadium, as tournament organizers appeal for patience, cooperation, and continued support while reiterating their vision of using football as a tool for youth empowerment and community development in Ekiti State.
